Jh. n.Chr. stammen, nur von vergleichsweise wenigen Wissenschaftlern in Angriff genommen wurde. Dabei erschliet die Beschftigung mit frhislamischen Geschichtsbnden und besonders deren Verfassern weit tiefer greifende Zusammenhnge als lediglich historische Ereignisse lngst vergangener Zeiten sie zeichnet auch den Fortgang der islamischen Geistesgeschichte nach und gibt ber die Entwicklung wichtiger Felder wie Philosophie, Literatur und Politik Aufschluss. Um diese Wertigkeit soll es in dieser Arbeit gehen. Um einen tieferen Einblick in die beginnende Geschichtsschreibung und das intellektuelle Milieu dieser Zeit zu erlangen, mchte ich mich nach einer zusammenfassenden Einfhrung in die Entwicklung der frhislamischen Geschichtsschreibung mit zwei Historikern dieser Zeit befassen: Auf der einen Seite soll es um Abu G'afar Muhammad b. Garir b. Yazid atTabari gehen, dessen unumstritten als herausragend anerkanntes Werk ebenso wie eine kurze Biografie vorgestellt werden sollen. Zweitens werde ich mich mit dem etwas weniger bekannten Abu 'Ali Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Ya'qub Miskawayh befassen, den ich, ebenso wie seinen Vorgnger atTabari, anhand seines Werkes und einer Biografie vorstellen werde. Anschlieend mchte ich die Konzeption der beiden Historiker vergleichen. Geprft werden soll in dieser Untersuchung auch die Ansicht, dass der heilsgeschichtliche Ansatz das wissenschaftliche Interesse an Geschichte und der Sammlung und Aufbereitung historischer Informationen in der frhislamischen Zeit berwog.
