La diversificacin de la explotacin y produccin minera nacional, ha permitido en las ltimas dcadas la difusin de informes tcnicos y econmicos relacionados con el uso industrial de minerales no metlicos, como las arcillas. Por otro lado, el incremento de la produccin de la minera puede lograrse, en parte, mediante el desarrollo de mtodos de caracterizacin cientfica de las arcillas, que puedan usarse en diversos sectores industriales haciendo uso de mtodos racionales que permitan potenciar su empleo. La intensificacin de los procesos de tratamiento de la materia prima natural, para la fabricacin de productos de alta calidad, es una alternativa para las diferentes industrias en nuestro pas que utilizan las arcillas para la obtencin de diversos productos comerciales. Sin embargo, a pesar de que las arcillas son una materia prima presente en varias regiones de nuestro pas, su explotacin se ha realizado por lo general, hasta ahora, de manera espontnea y sin previa planeacin del sector pblico y privado, a un ritmo lento que no es compatible con las condiciones que prevalecen actualmente en algunos pases comercializadores de estas materias primas.
