Este trabajo representa la fase inicial de un estudio piloto financiado por el Instituto Geolgico de Catalua para la caracterizacin de la evolucin de escarpes erosivos en rocas poco consolidadas o suelos de la depresin del Valls en la regin de Catalua. Constituye la tesis de maestra del autor, realizada conjuntamente en la Universidad de BarcelonaUniversidad Autnoma de Barcelona. Tiene como objeto la aplicacin de una metodologa, diseada por el autor, para zonificar reas susceptibles al retroceso debido a la ocurrencia de movimientos de masa y otros procesos erosivos en dicho tipo de escarpes. Se analiza la ocurrencia de movimientos de masa del tipo cadas de rocas y volcamientos, adems de otros procesos erosivos (erosin por infiltracin, tubificacin y formacin de crcavas), como factores responsables del retroceso de taludes; tomando en consideracin una serie de caractersticas y parmetros de los macizos rocosos.
