Urpltzlich und ohne Vorwarnung wird der Betroffene durch ein lebensbedrohliches Ereignis aus seinem alltglichen Lebensrythmus gerissen. Schwere Unflle, krperliche und / oder sexuelle Gewalt oder andere schwerwiegende Ereignisse erschttern das Selbst und Weltbild. In NordrheinWestfalen werden, so die Polizeistatistik, jhrlich allein etwa 40000 Menschen Opfer von unterschiedlichen Gewalttaten, wie z.B. schwere und gefhrliche Krperverletzung, Raubberflle und Straftaten gegen sexuelle Selbstbestimmung" (NRWJustiz, 2/2000, S.6). Solche gravierenden von auen kommenden Eingriffe in das Leben bleiben meist nicht ohne schwere Folgen fr den Betroffenen und dessen Angehrige. Trotz des begrenzten Rahmens dieser Arbeit soll nicht auf eine ausfhrliche Darstellung der Definition, der diagnostischen Merkmale und des Verlaufes einer PTBS verzichtet werden, da ansonsten die Grenzen und Mglichkeiten der Psychotherapie kaum darzustellen sind, denn gerade hieraus ergeben sich ja diese.
