This guidebook provides illustrations of Michigans recorded butterflies and skippers and comments on their identification, habitat, adult food sources, larval host plants and distribution in the state. The aims of this guidebook are to update and synthesize the older works of Moore (1960) and Nielsen (1970), and to provide the background to which additional information may be added in the future.

Unfortunately, my copy arrived with a bent cover and a few pages were creased. I was really looking forward to using it for my butterfly garden. Hoping for a replacement soon.

Great Resource, But Lacking Some Details
The guide is pretty good for beginners, but I found a few species missing that I expected to see. Still, it’s well-organized and helpful for my walks in the park.

Good for Beginners, Not Comprehensive Enough
While this book is a good starting point, I expected more in-depth information on some of the rarer butterflies. It’s nice for casual use, but seasoned enthusiasts might want to look elsewhere.

A Must-Have for Butterfly Lovers
I bought this field guide for my daughter who’s fascinated by butterflies. The illustrations are beautiful and the descriptions are detailed. We’ve already identified several species in our backyard!
