This book shows how electrophysiologists, neuroanatomists, and neurochemists can use personal computers to solve their laboratory problems. Expensive minicomputers are already being used for these tasks, but most researchers are unaware of the capabilities of these simpler machines. The editor has brought together a team of nine experts to describe their experiences with computers and microprocessors in their work. Different micros are discussed and their relative advantages evaluated; details are given of the applications of systems based on the 6502 and Z80 chips of electrophysiology. In a separate chapter a package for the Apple II is described which provides quantitative analysis of light microscopic and EM sections for neuroanatomists. Finally there are chapters on simple molecular modelling and the construction of hardware for a Z80 interface. A glossary of all technical terms used in the book is provided.
