Product Description Middlefield: Otsego Lake's Eastern Shore reveals life from the late 1800s to the mid1900s in a thriving, closeknit community in central New York State. It explores "the Land of Steady Habits," a place where little has changed since the beginning of the twentieth century, where shadows of the nineteenth century still loom, and where the geography echoes old family names in Murphy Hill, Hubbard Hill, Whiteman Hill, and Garlock's Pond. In this unique town, a tavern owner marketed a cure for intemperance, a factory produced record numbers of shoe lasts, and a wealthy resident erected a medieval folly on the shore of Otsego Lake. About the Author Dominick J. Reisen, Middlefield town historian, has served on the Town of Middlefield Historical Association's board of directors since 1994 and as its treasurer since 1999. He has also guided tours of the Middlefield Hamlet Historic District. A graduate of Bard College with a degree in history, he helped found the Otsego County Historical Association and authored two other historical works. For Middlefield: Otsego Lake's Eastern Shore, Reisen has drawn from the historical association and private collections more than two hundred images, many of which have never before been published.
