Von 1938 bis 1958 plante und baute Mies van der Rohe die neue Campusanlage fr das Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Beschrnkte Geldmittel zwangen zu uerster Sparsamkeit. Diese Herausforderung weckte die innovative Kraft des Architekten. Mit tragenden Ziegelsteinwnden, sichtbaren Stahlbetonskelett und reinen Stahlskelettbauten erreichte Mies eine architektonische Meisterleistung von schlichter Schnheit. Die klare Ordnung und Struktur des Grundrasters erwies sich fr die verschiedenen Labor und Unterrichtsgebude als eine die Zeit berdauernde gute Lsung. Werner Blaser, Mitarbeiter Mies van der Rohes, liefert eine sorgfltige, bersichtlich aufgebaute Darstellung in Text und Bild. Zusammen mit dem Band Crown Hall liegt damit eine unverzichtbare Gesamtdokumentation dieser epochemachenden berbauung vor.
