Doch Brger Frankreichs nahmen den Ernst der Lage nicht wahr, statt dessen besuchten sie das Theater und verdrngten die eigene Realitt, whrend auf der Bhne z.B. in Offenbachs 'La GrandeDuchesse de Grolstein' eine Karikatur der europischen Zustnde gezeigt wurde. Bereits im gleichen Jahr lste die opra bouffe in Wien, in England und den Vereinigten Staaten geradezu eine OffenbachManie aus. Da aber mit Blick auf Preuen und Napoleon III. die Grundzge des Librettos nicht ganz aus der Luft gegriffen waren und auerdem die Sensibilitt gegenber der Brisanz des Stoffs zunehmend wuchs, wurde das Stck Ende der 1860er Jahre immer hufiger aus dem Spielplan genommen. Nach der Niederlage der Franzosen gegen die Deutschen 1871 wurde es gar verboten. Schon ein halbes Jahrhundert spter galt die opra bouffe nur mehr als historischer Militrschwank, wurde unbesorgt mitten im ersten Weltkrieg herausgebracht und verursachte keinerlei emprte Reaktionen. Neben 'La GrandeDuchesse de Grolstein' fllt auch 'La Prichole' in die Zeit der sogenannten Goldenen Jahre der Offenbach'schen Operettenproduktion In beiden Fllen soll gleichermaen historischer Stoff plausibel gemacht werden in 'La Prichole' erinnert man dabei an eine wohl historische Begebenheit, in 'La GrandeDuchesse de Grolstein' ist die Handlung zwar absolut frei erfunden, doch die Anlehnungen an aktuelle Zustnde ist unverkennbar. Um keine Angriffsflche fr die Zensur zu bieten spielen beide Werke an einem fernen oder sogar imaginren Ort, hundert Jahre vor der Zeit Offenbachs. Der Spielort von 'La Prichole' nmlich Lima, die Hauptstadt Perus bedient jedoch ein weiteres zentrales Klischee der Zeit: den Exotismu
