Joan Mir (18931983) es uno de los ms importantes pintores espaoles del siglo XX. Los temas y los tratamientos de sus primeros trabajos fueron moldeadas por el paisaje cataln y muestran claramente la influencia del fauvismo y el cubismo. Durante sus viajes, Mir encontr con la vanguardia intelectual de su poca; sus amigos incluyeron Francis Picabia, Tristan Tzara, Andr Masson, Jean Arp y Pablo Picasso. Desde mediados de la dcada de 1920 en adelante, Mir se esforz por dejar referencias objetivas directas detrs y desarroll los pictogramas que caracterizan su estilo. Los cuadros de este periodo, que incluyen quizs la ms bella e importante de toda su obra, prescinden de la especialidad y una referencia inequvoca a los objetos. A partir de entonces , las superficies fueron definidos por los nmeros, la escritura, emblemas abstractos y figuras ldicas y criaturas. En los aos de la posguerra se comenzar a producir obra grfica, cermica, murales monumentales y esculturas. En estas obras, tambin, el artista cataln busc la base slida de un arte simblico figurativo, con caras, estrellas, lunas, formas animales rudimentarios, y las letras. Joan Mir se desarroll en varias etapas de su caracterstica que fluye estilo caligrfico y su mundo de formas que se asemejan smbolos taquigrficos en varias etapas. Desde el fauvismo al surrealismo a travs de su estilo infantil original, Mir quiso sacudir el establecimiento y, al hacerlo, se hizo un nombre por s mismo.
