Das Schikanieren von einzelnen innerhalb einer festen Gemeinschaft, wie z.B. in Arbeitsgruppen, ist hinlnglich bekannt und schon viele Jahrzehnte Gegenstand der Sozialpsychologie. Doch wurde bei den Untersuchungen das Augenmerk anfnglich nur auf Erwachsene gelegt, da man den Kindern und Jugendlichen solch psychosoziales Geschick" nicht zutraute. Schikanen in der Schule wurden als normales Phnomen der kindlichen Entwicklung betrachtet, als Vorbereitung auf das Leben. Machtkmpfe und Raufereien gehrten nach Ansicht der Gesellschaft zum Schulalltag. Die langfristigen Folgen tglichen Psychoterrors in der Kindheit und Pubertt wurden erst in den 80er Jahren von dem schwedischen Persnlichkeitspsychologen Dan Olweus von der Erwachsenenwelt auf die Schule bertragen. Nachdem in Schweden drei 10 bis 14 jhrige Schler auf Grund langwieriger Mobbingattacken Selbstmord begangen hatten, bekam das Thema weltweite Medienaufmerksamkeit und auch in Deutschland begann man sich mit den psychosozialen Bedingungen in der Schule zu befassen. Doch sind es immer noch nur meist die Flle krperlicher Gewalt, die in den Schulen beobachtet werden und an die ffentlichkeit kommen. Wie es in einem Kind aussieht, das tglich niedergemacht wird, kann man oft erst erkennen, wenn es schon zu spt ist, dessen Persnlichkeit vllig zerstrt ist oder es mit aufflligem Verhalten auf seine Situation aufmerksam machen will. Der lange Leidensweg, den ein Kind whrend eines Mobbingprozesses durchluft, ist oft fr Auenstehende nicht sichtbar und fr Menschen, die nicht selbst schon Mobbing erlebt haben, nicht leicht nachzuvollziehen.
