On a typical vehicle, pumps are one of the noise sources creating discomfort for the vehicle passengers. The alternating forces from the pump and flow ripple create noise which travels through fluid lines or structure and gets amplified. In this book, radial piston type pump has been used to evaluate noise transmission. The use of the pump is mainly for Land Rover vehicles in the application of ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement). Using Finite Element Method (FEM) and software LMS Virtual.Lab, a 3D model of the pump housing structure was developed to simulate the dynamic structural characteristics of the pump. This book takes you through a detailed process of modal analysis and tuning the 3D model to correlate to the measured eigenmodes and frequency response due to a force input in the pump.
