La investigacin en nuevos materiales de construccin y la prediccin del comportamiento de las estructuras en la ingeniera civil exigen el uso de mejores herramientas de modelado computacional. Los modelos actuales basados en el continuo elstico y lineal tienen limitadas aplicaciones a las estructuras cuasifrgiles. Silling en el ao 1998 propuso un marco terico general llamado el modelo peridinmico donde el comportamiento emergente aparece como una consecuencia de la integracin de simples ecuaciones constitutivas. Este modelo fue formulado a fin de corregir las deficiencias de los modelos continuos. Sin embargo, slo los materiales con un valor fijo de la relacin de Poisson se pueden modelar con esta formulacin. En el presente trabajo se mejora el modelo peridinmico de Silling y se propone el modelo micropolar peridinmico, en donde se desarrollan dos esquemas computacionales. Una serie de problemas de referencia se analizan y los resultados se comparan con los derivados de experimentos tpicos de laboratorio. Este libro esta dirigido a ingenieros e investigadores en las reas de modelacin de dao y fractura en materiales frgiles y cuasifrgiles.
