La modelacin numrica del flujo en lmina libre es una herramienta cada vez ms utilizada y con un creciente abanico de posibles aplicaciones. HECRAS es un modelo numrico en continuo desarrollo, aplicable en el mbito de la ingeniera hidrulica y fluvial, con una gran aceptacin por parte de la administracin pblica. Mediante la aplicacin del modelo a casos reales, se presentan las bases tericas esenciales (conceptos de rgimen lento, rgimen rpido, resalto, etc.), el funcionamiento general del programa (elaboracin de un proyecto, creacin de geometras, gestin de planes, etc.), los aspectos clave a considerar en su ejecucin (establecimiento de las condiciones de contorno, espaciamiento entre secciones, rugosidad, etc.), al tiempo que se trabaja tambin con elementos singulares (puentes, encauzamientos, pasos entubados bajo va, etc.). El libro se estructura de manera ordenada segn los temas que se desarrollan en los cursos de modelacin numrica en ros (rgimen permanente y rgimen variable), impartidos por los miembros del grupo de investigacin FLUMEN de la UPC.
