Der vorliegende Band gibt im wesentlichen Vortrage einer Tagung Modeme Methoden der Numerischen Mathematik wieder, die yom 10. bis 13.Juni 1975 im Rahmen der 200JahrFeier der Technischen Universitat Clausthal stattfand und die durch verschiedene Beispiele sowohl Forschungsschwer punkte als auch Anwendungen in anderen Wissenschaften zeigen sollte. Folgende Gebiete kamen dabei zur Sprache: Eigenwertaufgaben, Iterationen mit expandierenden und mit monotonen Operatoren, nichtlineare Schwin gungen, Approximation, Interpolation und Quadratur, Ausgleichungen, Opti mierung, optimale Steuerung, Diskretisierungsverfahren bei Anfangs und Randwertaufgaben, schnelle FourierTransformationen, Diffusionsgleichun gen in biologischen Modellen und Identifizierungsprobleme. Der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft sei auch an dieser Stelle fUr die Forderung der Tagung gedankt; dem Birkhauser Verlag gilt der Dank fUr die Herausgabe dieses Bandes und fUr seine wie stets gute Ausstattung.
