The Christmas Child by Hesba Stretton tells of unforeseen grief and sadness, but ends with a joy that will warm the heart of everyone who reads it. The last story, The Blossoming Rod by Mary Stewart Cutting, relates how a loving husband and father is willing to forgo his own private hopes and dreams out of love for his family, only to be surprised on Christmas Day by the love of his family.
