La glande thyrode du dromadaire prsente des variations morphomtriques et endocriniennes en fonction de lge, du sexe et de la saison. Elles permettent une adaptation au stade physiologique (croissance, pubert) et aux difficiles conditions des zones dsertiques. Cette adaptation, comme dailleurs chez l'homme, est limite par des contraintes pathologiques notamment le goitre (maladie endocrinienne la plus rpandue dans le monde chez lhomme). En effet, le goitre collode semble courant chez le dromadaire dans le sud tunisien. Cette pathologie est caractrise par des modifications histopathologiques des follicules thyrodiens qui expliquent la diminution de la concentration srique des hormones thyrodiennes iodes. Sa physiopathologie est complexe et sa constitution est favorise par des facteurs goitrognes. Ces facteurs sont, essentiellement mais non exclusivement, reprsents par la carence en iode dans le sud tunisien trs probablement en relation avec un excs en fluor. Enfin, il faut signaler que les signes cliniques sont rares chez les dromadaires goitreux mais cette pathologie peut avoir des effets indirects sur la production et la reproduction du dromadaire.
