Lungenkrebs ist die Krebsart mit den meisten Todesfolgen und verursacht mehr Krebstote als die in der Hufigkeit nchsten drei Krebsarten zusammen. Eines der Hauptprobleme bei der strahlentherapeutischen Behandlung stellt die groe Beweglichkeit von Lungentumoren aufgrund von Atmung und Herzschlag dar. Bislang bestehen whrend der Behandlung nur unzureichende Mglichkeiten zur Anpassung an die Tumorbewegung. Aufgrund dessen verwendet man einen greren Strahlquerschnitt, um zu garantieren, dass der Tumor trotz der Atembewegung mit der geplanten Minimaldosis bestrahlt wird. Als Folge des vergrerten Strahlquerschnitts wird jedoch auch ein groer Anteil Normalgewebes bestrahlt, wodurch es besonders im Lungenbereich zu erhhten Komplikationen kommen kann. Konventionelle Behandlungssystem sind bis dato nicht in der Lage, diese fundamentale Problematik zu lsen. Mittels rntgen und infrarotbasierender Positionierungstechnologie wurde ein System zur atemgetriggerten Behandlung von Tumoren entwickelt und zur klinischen Einsatzreife gebracht. Dieses System ist fr alle, einer Atembewegung unterliegenden Indikationen einsetzbar, mit besonderem Fokus auf Lungen und Lebertumore.
