Esta investigacin se propuso conocer y comprender la experiencia de las profesoras universitarias que trabajan en estudios de gnero en algunas universidades de Santiago de Chile. Basada en una metodologa cualitativa se realizaron varias entrevistas a acadmicas. A partir de las entrevistas se exploraron las percepciones sobre la universidad, expectativas de trabajo, estereotipos que rondan en torno a su rea de saber y las relaciones de gnero que se observan en la vida privada de la universidad. Junto con los antecedentes estadsticos tanto de las alumnas, acadmicas como mujeres en cargos directivos, se pudo descifrar en parte el sistema de prestigio y de poder que opera en la universidad y que afecta directamente el trabajo acadmico de aquellas mujeres cuyo saber justamente se centra en los estudios de gnero. Develar la experiencia acadmica de las profesoras busca incitar a la reaccin de las involucradas y de este modo generar un sentido de pertenencia que las identifique y las anime a generar alianzas en pos de lograr una efectiva igualdad de oportunidades en el sistema universitario chileno.
