With the rapid progress and development of information and communication technologies, multimedia applications have now become feasible and affordable to be integrated into the teaching and learning environments for effective communication to the students. Currently with the shift from teacher centred to studentcentred learning pedagogies, various teaching and learning strategies are being developed to create engaging and mediarich environments for effective student learning. Studies are being carried out to identify the important characteristics for effective teaching and learning when multimedia technology is incorporated into the classroom. Therefore, the research will seek to develop a framework to study the impact on student learning when multimedia technology is used in teachercentred, mixedmode and studentcentred classrooms in higher education. The framework will serve as a guide or roadmap for educators wanting to innovate and implement viable multimediamediated instructional methodologies to support learning in tertiary education.
