Musical Instruments introduces many of the most popular instruments in Western music today from the traditional to the electronic used in rock and jazz. Drawings explain how groups of instruments and different voices produce their sounds. Each instrument is illustrated with a brief description of how it is made and played, examples of music written for it as well as some wellknown performers. The accompanying cassette includes music to illustrate the different instruments and their special effects, as well as 'listening task' exercises. Practical exercises called 'sound experiments' deal with different ideas and sounds. Musical Instruments provides invaluable background information necessary for the listening and composing elements of the GCSE examination and for the listening and appraising requirements of Attainment Target 2 at Key Stage 3.
