M. Shelby Mahan was surprised to learn that painting could be the muse she needed to produce a book about her experience as a cancer survivor. Using images she's painted she describes what it's like for her as a wave rider comparing it to what it's like being a cancer survivor. She holds an M.A. degree in Children's Literature and is a freelance writer as well as a visual artist. Some might say that Michelle Shelby Mahan is "coming into her own."
