Einzelgestalten wie Meister Eckhart und Marguerite Porete stellen mit ihrer religiosen Sprache die Grenzen des bisher Vertrauten in Frage. Sie geraten in Konflikt mit dem entstehenden Ordnungssystem jener Kirche, deren massgebliche Pragegestalten sie als Dominikaner und im Kontext der Beginenbewegung zugleich sind. Forschung zur Mystik, die einseitig institutionskritisch denkt, ubersieht diese Zusammenhange ebenso wie Kirchenrechtsforschung, die nicht nach Einflussen von ausserhalb der kirchlichen Hierarchie fragt.
