Die dortigen Marienerscheinungen aus dem Jahre 1858 machten das sdfranzsische Stdtchen zum Zentrum einer bald internationalen Kult und Pilgerbewegung. Zahlreiche Andachtssttten und ein vielfach belegter Gebrauch von Lourdeswasser zeugen davon, wie der Kult noch vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg auch in Deutschland heimisch wurde. Andererseits zog das franzsische Heiligtum immer grere Pilgerscharen aus dem Kaiserreich an. Die vorliegende Studie zeigt, wie sich nach dem Krieg von 1870/71 und whrend der ModernismusKrise dieser Transfer eines umstrittenen religisen Kulturguts vollziehen konnte.
