Nachhaltigkeit bedeutet hierbei eine politische und gesellschaftliche Entwicklung, die die Bedrfnisse der Gegenwart befriedigt, ohne die Mglichkeit der Bedrfnisbefriedigung zuknftiger Generationen zu gefhrden. Zentrale Punkte sind dabei die Bekmpfung der Armut sowie der Schutz der Umwelt und der natrlichen Ressourcen. In den Unternehmen wird die Integration von Umweltschutz und sozialen Zielen hufig kritisch gesehen und oft stellen sie aus Sicht des Managements nur zu vermeidende Kostenfaktoren dar. Falls diese Ziele derzeit auf Unternehmensebene verfolgt werden, geschieht dies meist mit separaten Managementsystemen, die wenig mit den allgemeinen Managementsystemen der Unternehmung verbunden sind. Die Balanced Scorecard bietet jedoch eine Mglichkeit zur Integration dieser Aspekte. Ziel dieser Diplomarbeit ist es, die Balanced Scorecard als Konzept des nachhaltigen Managements vorzustellen und kritisch zu wrdigen. In einer Fallstudie wird eine Sustainability Balanced Scorecard (SBSC) erstellt. Hierzu wird in Kapitel 2 Nachhaltigkeit in der Unternehmensfhrung erlutert und im Kapitel 3 die Entwicklung einer Sustainability Balanced Scorecard aufgezeigt. Diese theoretischen Ausfhrungen werden in Kapitel 4 mit der Gestaltung einer SBSC fr die BMW AG an einem Fallbeispiel angewendet. Eine Zusammenfassung und ein Ausblick in Kapitel 5 schlieen diese Arbeit ab.
