Proceeding from a constructivist understanding of the term 'nation', this volume containing the papers delivered at the Stuttgart colloquium on GermanFrench Perception Patterns and the Concept of National Identity in the 18th and 19th Centuries reviews the question of the 'image' of otherness and the foreign conveyed by literature.
