In den letzten Jahren hat sich das Interesse der Biochemiker bevorzugt der Frage zugewandt, wie die chemischen AbHiufe in lebenden Zellen reguliert werden, urn die fijr alle Lebewesen charakteristische automatische Anpassung des Stoffwechsels an Veranderungen der Umweltbedingungen zu ermoglichen. Schon Anfang der vierziger Jahre haben Fritz Lipmannt, Hermann M. Kalckar2 und Feodor 3 Lynen ein grundlegendes Regulationsprinzip erkannt: Der Phosphatkreis lauf in den lebenden Zellen reguliert den Energiestoffwechsel nach dem Prin zip 'die Nachfrage kontrolliert das Angebot'. Da einerseits alle energie benotigenden Prozesse der Zelle mit einer Spaltung von ATP (Adenosin triphosphat) zu ADP (Adenosindiphosphat) und Phosphat, bzw. AMP (Adenosinmonophosphat) und Pyrophosphat verbunden sind und anderer seits die energieliefernden Prozesse mit der Synthese von ATP aus AMP bzw. ADP und Phosphat gekoppelt sind, kann der ATPliefernde Energie stoffwechsel nur in dem Urn fang ablaufen, wie vorher ATP verbraucht Tab.
