Diese Modernisierung des Handelsgesetzbuches (HGB) ist erforderlich, da sich deutsche Unternehmen durch die zunehmende Globalisierung der Mrkte immer mehr international bewegen. Die Reform des BilMoG fhrt neben einer berarbeitung des Handelsrechts auch zu nderungen in 29 weiteren Bundesgesetze und verordnungen. Auch zwischen dem Bilanzrechtsmodernisierungsgesetz (BilMoG) und dem Bilanzrichtliniengesetz (BiRiLiG) sind eine Reihe von Gesetzen mit bilanzrechtlichem Schwerpunkt in Deutschland verabschiedet wurden, diese beinhalteten jedoch meist nur einzelne Vorschriften und waren keine tief greifende Reform der Rechnungslegungsvorschriften wie das BilMoG.
