Neophyten sind gebietsfremde Pflanzenarten die nach 1492 erstmalig in unserem Gebiet auftraten und die durch den Einfluss des Menschen beabsichtigt, z.B. durch Einfuhr von Nutz und Zierpflanzen fr Garten und Parkanlagen oder unbeabsichtigt, z.B. durch Einschleppung von Samen, in das jeweilige kosystem gelangten. Somit sind Stdte als Zentren von zahlreichen Handels und Verkehrswegen, eine bedeutende Einwanderungs und Ausbreitungsquelle fr Neophyten. Dieses Buch befasst sich mit dem Vorkommen von Neophyten im Siedlungsbereich am Beispiel der Stadt Ingelheim am Rhein, welche durch ihr warmtrockenes Klima und sandige Bden eine gnstige Voraussetzung fr Neophyten aus mediterranen oder subtropischen Florenregionen bietet. Sind sie eine Gefahr fr die heimische Vegetation oder sollten sie toleriert werden? Hierzu wurden die charakteristischen Siedlungsstrukturtypen kartiert, die dort vorkommenden und einen potenziell problematischen Aspekt aufweisenden Neophyten in ein dreigliedriges Listensystem eingestuft und anhand dessen eine Empfehlung zu mglichen Handlungsstrategien abgeleitet. Die hier vorliegende Arbeit soll die Diskussion zu dieser Fragestellung untersttzen.
