Product Description With the prolific growth of networking, network management is becoming an increasingly important part of the academic curriculum. This text is a selfcontained balance of theoretical backgrounds and practical aspects of networking. It is divided into three parts. Part I deals with background material on networking and networking technologies to provide a background on networking technologies such as Ethernet, bridges, and switches. Part II addresses network management architectures and protocols to lay the foundation for SNMP management, broadband management, and TNM. Part III focuses on network management applications, tools to monitor network parameters, and network management systems to manage networks. This text is designed for seniorlevel or graduate courses in network management, and enables students to move on to the networking industry or to pursue or continue research in the field. It is useful for both computer science and electrical/computer engineering courses in networking. From the Back Cover Network Management: Principles and Practice provides a balance of theoretical backgrounds and practical aspects of network management. Unlike other books that talk only about specific network technologies, Mani Subramanian lays the foundation for network management by presenting the background, the technologies, and the tools that all network managers simply must know. He does this by breaking the book down into three parts: Part I provides a background on networking and network technologies such as hubs, routers, bridges, and switches. Part II addresses network management architectures and protocols before moving on to discuss SNMP management, broadband management, and TMN. Part III focuses on tools to monitor network parameters, network management applications, and solutions to manage networks and systems. Throughout the book, the author intertwines realworld examples based upon his experience in managing, engineering, and operating networks. 0201357429B04062001 About the Author Mani Subramanian is a professor at Georgia Institute of Technology, where he teaches a Network Management course based on his years of industry experience. He has led research and development at several networking corporations and has practical knowledge of networking and network management. In 1989, he was elected Technical Director of the OSI Network Management Forum and was responsible for the first release of OSI NM specifications. Dr. Subramanian received his Ph.D from Purdue University. 0201357429AB04062001
