Die Konstante im Wandel ist der von den Fesseln des Zins und Kapitalmarkt dirigismus weitgehend freie Europamarkt. So gibt es hier nur relativ geringe rechtliche Auflagen. Die an den Euromarkten vertretenen Banken miissen beispielsweise keine Mindestreserven unterhalten. Dies ist mit ein Grund fiir die haufig besseren Konditionen. AuBerdem ermoglichen die zahlreichen Varianten neuer Finanzierungsinstrumente eine auf die Bediirfnisse der Kreditnehmer abgestimmte Finanzierung. Die Marktteilnehmer an den Euromarkten lassen sich ganz grob in vier Gruppen unterteilen: die Eurobanken, die Zentralbanken, die Nichtbanken sowie die international operierenden Geschaftsbanken. Die Eurobanken treten dabei an den Euromarkten sowohl als Vermittler zwischen Kapitalanlegern und Kapitalnehmern als auch als Anbieter und Nachfrager von Einlagen und Krediten auf. Anders als an den nationalen Finanzmarkten werden hier die Mittel oft nicht unmittelbar von der Bank, die sie als Einlagen hereingenommen hat, an einen Endkreditnehmer gegeben, sondern zuvor an andere Eurobanken ausgeliehen, bevor sie dann einem U nternehmen, einem Staat oder einer Geschaftsbank als Kredit zur Verfiigung gestellt werden (Interbankengeschaft ). Aus Grunden, auf die spater eingegangen wird, hat sich im Verlauf der achtziger Jahre der Wettbewerb fiir Eurobanken zunehmend intensiviert.
