'Notable Women of Hawaii' is a biographical reference work documenting women's contributions to the history of the Hawaiian Islands. The models for it were the threevolume work entitled 'Notable American Woman' (1971), the first comprehensive scholarly biographical dictionary of its kind, and its supplementary volume, 'Notable American Women: The Modern Period' (1980). As in the national volumes, all women included in this work are deceased, their lives and accomplishments now part of history. This book is a work of collective historical biography that seeks to integrate women's personal lives with their professional careers by providing information on crucial dates, ancestry, parents, siblings, education, marital status, career summary and professional or social impact on history. It concludes with suggested additional readings.
