Auch symbolische Aktionen rechter Parteien (insbesondere der NPD), wie beispielsweise der Demonstrationszug am Brandenburger Tor, erregten zudem Assoziationen zum deutschen Nationalsozialismus im In und Ausland. Die politischen Akteure sahen sich in einem Handlungszwang. Forderungen nach einem Antrag zur Untersuchung der Verfassungswidrigkeit der ,,Nationaldemokratischen Partei Deutschlands" (NPD) waren die Folge. Die Debatte um ein Verbot der NPD verdeutlicht die Schwierigkeiten hinsichtlich des Umgangs mit Rechtsextremismus. Zwei Meinungen klaffen auseinander: Ausschpfung der konventionellen Verbrechensbekmpfung und die Forderung nach der "wehrhaften" Demokratie. Ein Hauptargument der Befrworter eines Verbots lautet, dass die NPD sich zu einer aggressiv kmpferischen Partei in den letzten Jahren entwickelt hat. Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht den politischen Werdegang der NPD nachzuzeichnen und mgliche Vernderungen in der Struktur ihrer Anhnger und ihrer Programmatik heraus zu filtern, um aus diesen Ergebnissen die Rechtfertigung fr bzw. gegen einen Verbotsantrag zu finden. Unsere Fragestellung zielt darauf ab, ob es der Tatsache entspricht, dass dieser Trend erst in den letzten Jahren eingetreten ist und zur der Debatte im Sommer gefhrt hat oder ob es sich beim Verbotsantrag nur um "symbolische Politik" gehandelt hat, die keine effektiven Ergebnisse im Kampf gegen Rechtsextremismus bringen wird.
