Adems, cada vez cobraba ms peso la influencia del pensamiento positivista en la actividad intelectual de Latinoamrica. Asimismo, el pragmatismo de los Estados Unidos y la diplomacia internacional empezaban a prevalecer. La idea unitaria de un Occidente cristiano estaba en crisis.
