A mediados de 1990 comenzaron a evidenciarse ciertos cambios en el mbito cinematogrfico argentino. Nuevas propuestas estticas, una expresa intencin de diferenciacin con respecto al cine inmediatamente anterior, renovaciones en la realizacin de los filmes y el reconocimiento por parte del pblico y la crtica fueron los principales indicadores de la transformacin. En este marco, el trabajo presenta, en primer lugar, un abordaje de las formas de representacin adoptadas por el lenguaje flmico a partir de la aparicin del nuevo cine argentino y, en segundo lugar, analiza en qu medida la nueva propuesta cinematogrfica puede vincularse con las modificaciones experimentadas en el campo social de esta poca. As, el objetivo central de la tesis consiste en relacionar al nuevo cine argentino con el contexto en el cual ste surge y se desarrolla. Descartando una vinculacin directa entre ambas variables (filmes y contexto), as como la suposicin de que los filmes ilustran una poca, las pelculas del nuevo cine son entendidas como instancias a travs de las cules problematizar los cambios que tuvieron lugar en el campo social de la Argentina de fines de siglo XX.
