En tmoignage de leur admiration et de leur amiti, quarantequatre auteurs, conservateurs de muse et historiens d'art, ont apport leur contribution ce livre de mlanges. Ces quarantequatre textes permettent de dcouvrir des chefsd'uvre indits dans des domaines d'une extraordinaire varit : ivoire, orfvrerie, textiles prcieux, tapisseries, meubles de menuiserie et d'bnisterie, objets monts, marqueterie de pierre dure, gemmes, porcelaine, verre, tle vernie, tabletterie... Ils sont prsents dans un ordre chronologique allant du Moyen ge au XIXe sicle, avec des illustrations montrant leur beaut et leurs particularits d'excution.
