Se evalu la fibra de la hoja de cocuy como materia prima alterna para la produccin de pulpa para papel, a fin de disminuir los efectos contaminantes producidos por estos desechos en la zona falconiana (Venezuela) provenientes de la produccin de licor de cocuy, los cuales no son usados en otros procesos productivos de valor comercial. El mtodo de pulpeo empleado fue a la SodaAntraquinona. Las condiciones de coccin ms adecuadas resultaron ser 7% de A.A por 10 minutos a una temperatura mxima de 160 C por presentar las mejores propiedades fsicomecnicas. El rendimiento total de pulpeo fue de (35,19%), considerndose bajo al compararlos con pulpas qumicas de madera alrededor del 55%. La pulpa obtenida posee propiedades fsicomecnicas mayores que otras materias primas de fibras cortas y comparables con fibras largas. Las fibras presentaron un porcentaje de: extractivos totales de 3,86%; celulosa 42,99% y lignina de 16,85%. Los resultados morfolgicos la clasifican como fibra corta (1,43 mm) y sus ndices demostraron que es una buena materia prima para hacer papel.
