En effet, vers 1818, Stendhal cesse de tenir rgulirement son journal, mais il ne peut s'empcher de noter en marge des livres qu'il lit ou entre les lignes de ceux qu'il est en train d'crire. V. Del Vitto s'est donc attach retrouver, transcrire, et annoter toutes les remarques parses de Stendhal. On pourra ainsi, pour la premire fois, suivre, intimement, Stendhal, jusqu' sa mort dans ce Journal reconstitu. On trouvera en outre, dans ce volume, Souvenirs d'gotisme et la Vie de Henry Brulard, deux textes importants pour la comprhension de l'homme Stendhal. L'annotation de ces oeuvres a t profondment renouvele. Enfin ce tome comporte les index de l'ensemble de l'dition.
