A fresh, new translation of Augustines inaugural work as a Christian convertThe first four works written by St. Augustine of Hippo after his conversion to Christianity are the Cassiciacum dialogues, which have influenced prominent thinkers from Boethius to Bernard Lonergan. In this second, brief dialogue, expertly translated by Michael Foley, Augustine and his mother, brother, son, and friends celebrate his thirtysecond birthday by having a feast of words on the nature of happiness. They conclude that the truly happy life consists of having God through faith, hope, and charity.

I was really looking forward to digging into this volume, but it arrived with a few pages crumpled. Thankfully, the content is still compelling and insightful. Just wish the delivery hadn't been such a hassle!

Thought-provoking read for philosophy lovers
Volume 2 of the St. Augustine's Cassiciacum Dialogues is a real treasure for anyone interested in philosophy and theology. The discussions are deep and engaging, making me reflect on many aspects of life. I found the prose to be beautifully written, even when the topics got complex!

Interesting but a bit dense
I enjoyed reading this second volume, but I have to admit some parts were quite dense and hard to follow. As a novice to Augustine's work, I struggled a bit with the themes. Still, it’s a worthwhile read if you're willing to put in the effort!
