ONGs y gobernabilidad rural aborda la emergencia de este nuevo actor en el campo mexicano, a partir de la gnesis de los movimientos ecologistas a nivel mundial. El estudio describe un campo de lucha social que se construye conceptualmente para su anlisis, con el objeto de entender si las diferentes formas del ecologismo aportan a la eficacia y legitimidad del Estado nacional al posicionar la agenda poltica de las ONGs ecologistas. Tratamos de dilucidar si en el marco de los cambios institucionales en curso en el campo mexicano, abonan a renovar o a destruir el contrato social. La conclusin apunta a que hay ONGs que han aportado a la consolidacin de las capacidades de manejo y conservacin, cuando el discurso de otras ONGs cuestiona la tenencia y tutela de los recursos naturales y busca la disolucin de sus derechos de propiedad y de las instituciones responsables de su arbitraje. Con este discurso expropiatiorio que pretende poner en duda los derechos de propiedad, se corre el riesgo de daar las bases de las instituciones comunitarias sobre las que se ha construido la vida de ejidos y comunidades y con ello la gobernabilidad de las regiones rurales indgenas de Mxico.
