El sistema de plasma atmosfrico es capaz de aumentar considerablemente las propiedades adhesivas de un polmero altamente apolar como es el polietileno. Acta mediante una modificacin de la rugosidad superficial a nivel nanomtrico y sobretodo mediante la insercin de molculas polares en la superficie del polmero, lo que facilita posteriores procesos adhesivos. El tratamiento mediante plasma atmosfrico es el sistema de plasma de mayor inters a nivel industrial, ya que no trabaja en camaras de vaco y es fcilmente implantable en un proceso industrial en continuo. Adems su fcil utilizacin, sus bajos costes de mantenimiento y la no generacin de residuos contaminantes, hacen del plasma atmosfrico una inversin fcilmente amortizable en procesos industriales. Mediante la optimizacin de las condiciones de tratamiento del plasma atmosferico en un sustrato tan econmico como el polietileno, se han sentado las bases para incorporar dicho polmero en sectores econmicos demandantes de materiales con elevadas propiedades adhesivas, como puede ser rel sector de la automocin, y los materiales para la prctica de deporte.
