In this volume Allan Nevins concludes his definitive history of the American Civil War. There is the bloody grindingdown of Confederate resolve, as the Union Army burns Atlanta, Sherman marches to the sea, Lee fails at Gettysburg, and the slow death grip between two great armies in the Battle of the Wilderness winds down into Appomattox. As these events take center stage, Nevins never forgets the importance of the economic buildup of the North, and the ways the exigencies of war served to create a new concept and new techniques of organization.

I really enjoyed reading 'The Emergence of Lincoln, Douglas, Buchanan and Party Chaos'. The way the author dissects the political landscape of 1857-1859 is brilliant. It gave me great insight into the events leading up to the Civil War. Highly recommend for history buffs!

Great Supplement to History Studies
As a student of history, this book was incredibly useful. The details about Buchanan and the party chaos were eye-opening. I think it could have included more maps for clarity, though. Still, a valuable addition to my library.

Disappointed with the Delivery
I was excited to read this book about the political drama of the late 1850s, but it arrived two weeks late. The content is good, but my anticipation was kinda ruined by the long wait. Maybe next time, better shipping options?
