Out of the Treasure' is a major new study of the parables of Jesus, as these are presented in the Gospel according to Matthew. It grapples with what these fascinating, yet familiar, tales meant for Jesus' own audience, for Matthew's readership and for the men and women of our own times. Jan Lambrecht, S.J., is Professor Emeritus of New Testament and former dean (19851990) of the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University of Leuven. Since 1984 he has been a memeber of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. His last booklength publication on the parables was 'Once More Astonished: The Parables of Jesus' (New York: Crossroad, 1981).
