The Pacific Coast League was a proving ground for some of the biggest names in baseball and has a storied history dating back to 1903. Ted Williams, Joe DeMaggio and Paul Waner are just a few of the greats that used the Pacific League as a stepping stone into the majors. In the early days of professional baseball there were no major league teams west of St. Louis and teams like the Portland Beavers, Albuquerque Isotopes, Salt Lake Bees and San Francisco Seals provided fans with their baseball entertainment. With most teams located in milder climates teams at times played more than 200 games in a season. Bill ONeal in a lifelong baseball fan and has written several books documenting the history of baseball including The Texas League, The American Association, The International League, and The Southern League. ONeal has also written a number of books on Western Americana and served two terms as Texas State Historian.
