Die Monographie untersucht die Gedankenwelt Platons aus dem Blickwinkel der Bildung anhand der Frhdialoge Lysis und Ion, und der mittleren und spteren Schriften Menon, Symposion, Politeia, Phaidros und Nomoi. Der platonische Bildungsgedanke verfolgt die Verwirklichung einer bewussten ethischen Selbstsorge, deren Ziel und Konsequenz die politische Bildung des Menschen zur Verwirklichung des guten Lebens ist. Weil Platon in seinen Schriften kein philosophisches System entwickelt, sondern eine philosophische Lebensform zur Darstellung gebracht hat, werden die verschiedenen Aspekte der Paideia unter Bercksichtigung der kontextbezogenen uerungen der Dialogfiguren, der dramatischen Zeichnung der jeweiligen Charaktere und der szenischen Darstellung untersucht. Ein Teil der Arbeit ist Platons Auseinandersetzung mit den herkmmlichen Bildungsmchten gewidmet und beleuchtet Platons Positionierung gegenber dem Bildungsanspruch der Dichter sowie der Sophisten als Wegbereiter und Gegenspieler des sokratischplatonischen Erziehungsdenkens. Den Schluss der Arbeit bildet eine Reflexion ber die Ethoswirkung und philosophische Bedeutung der platonischen Jenseitsmythen.
