El proyecto sobre la amenaza ssmica de Villavicencio se est desarrollando desde 2006 y est liderado por el grupo de investigacin de la Universidad del Meta de Colombia "Estudios sobre riesgo ssmico y amenazas naturales del Piedemonte Llanero" con el apoyo del Grupo de Geofsica del Departamento de Geociencias de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia de Bogot D.C. La ciudad de Villavicencio tiene cerca de 500.000 habitantes. Su poblacin se ha quintuplicado en los ltimos 40 aos y su economa ha crecido de una manera cas exponencial para las dos ltimas dcadas. Estos entre otros factores han producido un crecimiento desmesurado y desorganizado de la ciudad, la cual no tiene regulada de una manera adecuada el uso y la ocupacin de su suelo, lo que ha dado como consecuencia el incremento de su vulnerabilidad frente a la amenaza ssmica, que es alta tal como se muestra en ste libro que exhibe los diferentes resultados del proyecto.
