Die historischen Vorlagen fr Garca Mrquez' Roman reichen von Pern (Argentinien) ber Stroessner (Paraguay), von Pinochet (Chile) ber Somoza (Nicaragua) bis Franco. Aus diesen Gestalten, die in Form von caciques', caudillos' oder patrones' schon in der frhesten Geschichte Lateinamerikas vorkommen, setzt sich die Figur des patriarca' von Garca Mrquez zusammen. Sowohl die mythologische Dimension als auch die primitivanimalischen Elemente finden in dieser Figur ihre Entsprechung, mehr noch, sie werden satirisch berhht.
