Product DescriptionThis lively board book marks the debut of Handprint's Nursery PlayAlong Classics. This justrightforlaptime title features not only whimsical illustration and full text of a nursery favorite, but also an engaging picturestory expanding on the verse, and clear visual instructions to allow a parent to actively share the material in delightful, playful interludes with young listeners. Our earliest awareness of language often comes from chanting beloved nursery rhymes. Equally important, they provide hours of funto recite, to act out, to extend into imaginative stories. The Nursery PlayAlong Classics, illuminated in soft pencil and pastel hues, are the perfect and most enjoyable way to introduce these essential texts to babies and young toddlers. From School Library JournalPreSA classic nursery rhyme in a boardbook format, with a twist. More text has been added to the simple rhyme to flesh out the story, and the concept is a great one. Unfortunately, the layout is problematic. The boldface original rhyme appears on running banners across the top of the pages while the accompanying text is at the bottom, narrated by Babys older brother, Billy. The nursery rhyme read alone, with the detailed cartoon illustrations, makes a wonderful baby storytime. The added text, read alone, also using the illustrative and detailed art, makes an interesting story for toddlers. The final page has an illustrated patacake finger play, a wonderful addition that encourages interactive play.JoAnn Jonas, Chula Vista Public Library, San Diego, CACopyright Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc.
