Poverty reduction is the foremost important development goal in Mozambique. In spite of tremendous strides in reducing poverty over the last 10 years, the majority of the population is still poor, particularly in rural areas, making the study of poverty dynamics important. Using a unique nationally representative panel data set from rural Mozambique, this book, therefore, addresses 3 questions: how have the incidence of poverty and the distribution of income changed? what factors are associated with rural household income change? and what factors are associated with moving out of or into poverty in the shortrun? The analysis should help shed light on poverty dynamics, and should be especially useful to professionals in international development, or any stakeholder working in rural development.
