Continuing Mexican artist Pedro Reyes's interest in creatively 'reimagining' public institutions, this book accompanies his ongoing Sanatorium project. Viewers are invited to become participants in this 'temporary clinic,' which offers therapies and short treatments developed by the artist and intended as a delivery system of placebos. Previously exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 2011 and Documenta XIII, the project aims to recover and modernize the idea of 'Sociatry' a 1930s term for the art of healing society for 21st century urban illnesses such as stress, loneliness and hyperstimulation.The publication, which acts as a manual and document of the project,includes texts from Alejandro Jodorowsky, Alice W. Flaherty and Antanas Mockus; along with an artist interview by Laurent Schmid.
